Overheating is a common problem with laptop computers and can be caused by a large amount of things.
Most people use their laptops on surfaces that restrict ventilation, E.g. Their Laps, Quilts and pillows. This will cause your laptop to overheat because your legs could be blocking the ventilation holes stopping your fan from ventilating air through the laptop. It can also cause the fan to pull fibres and dust into the laptop blocking the vents and the fan.
Smoking by your laptop can also cause the build-up of tar in the fan and in the heat sink, this will prevent the air to flow through and cause the temperature to rise.
Dust is a big concern, getting clogged up in the fan, can also cause the bearings in the fan to fail – causing the fan to stop rotating, and completely eliminating the airflow in your laptop!
Allowing your laptop to get too hot wont only just cause burning lap syndrome (where your laptop burns you), but can also cause the Thermal conductive paste to melt and dissolve, further damaging the cooling apparatus in your laptop.
But don't panic – we can fix this.
Most of the time we can easily clean your laptop out from all signs of problems like dust and grime, and free your fan by cleaning the bearing and removing all obstructions, but there are often times where we will have to change the thermal paste, or the fan, or the whole cooling system all together.
After the fix, one of our technicians will happily advise you on ways to prevent overheating and keep your laptop alive for longer.
